Please join us in welcoming VACC’s President-Elect, Leigh Ann Bowe-Geddes, MSN, VA-BC™!
For over 40 years, Leigh Ann Bowe-Geddes has advocated for vascular access. She has been VA-BC™
certified since 2010 and was among the first group of exam-takers. Along with previously serving on
VACC’s Board of Directors, she has been a member of both the Infusion Nurses Society (INS) since 1991
and the Association for Vascular Access (AVA) since 1995, for which she served as President from 2009-
2011. She has also advocated for vascular access on the local, state, and international levels, from the
Kentucky Board of Nursing to the World Congress on Vascular Access (WoCoVA).
“I serve on the VACC board because I believe that certification creates an opportunity to challenge the
professional to elevate his or her specialty practice knowledge and understanding,” said Bowe-Geddes.
“This elevation in knowledge positively impacts patient care and provides to those we serve evidence of
commitment to excellence.”
In her role as Vascular Access Specialist at Robley Rex VA Medical Center, she mentors new staff on her
vascular access team to help them become adept and independent vascular access specialists. Off the
floor, Bowe-Geddes collaborates with several departments at her institution to determine the best
vascular access practices and device selection across a variety of patient experiences. She also has been
teaching PICC insertion classes since 1995, and collaborated with a teammate to implement a device
that tracks and calculates infections, occlusion rates, and catheter breakage, which led to improved
patient outcomes, acquisition of additional needed equipment, and expansion of the Vascular Access
Team at that facility.
“Bowe-Geddes’s drive to take action on behalf of the patient and her advocation for safe vascular access
not only in her own role but throughout the practice is inspiring,” said VACC President Christopher Frith.
“We’re certain that her passion and deep breadth of knowledge will greatly strengthen vascular access
certification.”
She will serve as VACC’s President-Elect through 2021, assuming the role of President in 2022. Frith will
serve as Presidential Advisor in 2022.
We are honored to have Bowe-Geddes’s vision, skills, and experience on our team. Thank you for
helping us celebrate her new position on our board!
