Angela Conard MSN, RN, VA-BC™, CPUI will present at AVA’s 2026 Scientific Meeting in Grapevine, Texas on October 4, 12:45-1:45 pm.
Her presentation “Transforming Vascular Access Within a Hospital: An Implementation Science–driven Education Model” describes the implementation of a hospital-wide vascular access education and competency program designed to standardize practice, expand ultrasound-guided IV insertion skills, and improve patient outcomes. Through a structured, evidence-based training model emphasizing proficiency, mentorship, accountability, and sustainability, Mosaic Life Care trained 236 clinicians across 20 departments and achieved hospital-wide adoption. During implementation, clinicians performed more than 4,500 ultrasound-guided PIV insertions, achieving an 88.6% first-attempt success rate and 96% success within two attempts. Results demonstrate that transforming vascular access requires more than education alone; it requires a coordinated organizational strategy that integrates leadership support, standardized processes, performance measurement, and culture change. This model offers a scalable framework for improving vascular access outcomes, patient experience, and operational efficiency across healthcare organizations.

Angela Conard has over 16 years of nursing experience at Mosaic Life Care. She discovered her passion for vascular access more than five years ago while working as an Interventional Radiology nurse. Angela currently serves as the Vascular Access Manager at Mosaic Life Care and is leading the organization’s first bedside PICC and IV Team. In her role, she places bedside PICCs, midlines, and difficult ultrasound-guided peripheral IVs, performs central line audits, and teaches all vascular access–related education courses. Angela also leads Mosaic Life Care’s CLABSI prevention workgroup in collaboration with Infection Prevention. She is an active member of the Association for Vascular Access and has held her Vascular Access–Board Certified (VA-BC™) credential for four years.
