Jamie Webb, MSN, RN, VA-BC™ will present at AVA’s 2026 Scientific Meeting in Grapevine, Texas on Saturday, October 3, 9:30-10:30 AM, with co-presenter Neil D. Johnson, MB.BS., M.Med, FRANZCR (SRY).
Their presentation is titled “PICC Tip Location: the Why Behind the Where.” This educational session reviews evidence-based standards for peripherally inserted central catheter (PICC) tip location and its critical role in safe medication administration and vessel preservation. Participants will examine ideal and acceptable tip locations for upper and lower extremity PICCs, including key radiographic landmarks used to confirm central placement. The presentation will highlight the relationship between central tip position and medication risk classification (red, yellow, and green medications), emphasizing why true central access is required for high-risk infusions. Common causes of tip malposition and migration, potential complications associated with improper tip location, and criteria for repositioning or removal will be discussed. Pediatric specific considerations and clinical decision-making scenarios will be integrated to support safe, consistent practice across the vascular access continuum.
When asked why he is excited to present at AVA, here is what Jamie had to say:
“It is a time for learning, connecting with peers and bringing home new knowledge that helps our vascular access team at Cincinnati Children’s. I love to collaborate with other vascular access experts, exchange ideas, and continue to expand my personal vascular access skills.”
