Kristin Jacobs, DNP, MBA, RN, NEA-BC®, CRNI®, VA-BC™ will present at AVA’s 2026 Scientific Meeting in Grapevine, Texas on Friday, October 2, 11am-12pm.
Her presentation is titled “Unveiling the Cost and Risk of Peripheral IV Complications: A Nationwide Data Analysis of 7.1 Million Patients.” Peripheral intravenous catheters are among the most common invasive devices used in healthcare, yet the broader impact of PIVC-associated complications is often underrecognized. This presentation examines nationwide real-world data from 7.1 million hospitalized surgical patients to explore the clinical and economic burden associated with these complications. Findings demonstrate important associations with increased length of stay, hospital costs, and readmissions, highlighting why even relatively infrequent complications can have a significant impact when viewed across the healthcare system. The session will challenge us to think beyond individual device events and consider how better recognition, measurement, and systems of care can improve vascular access outcomes.
When asked why she is excited to present at AVA, here is what Dr. Jacobs had to say:
“AVA has always felt like family to me. The Scientific Meeting is a chance to reconnect with people who share a passion for vascular access and understand the work we do every day. I look forward to the conversations, the learning, the laughter, and the opportunity to come together as a community to continue advancing our specialty.”
